Based on the theory and true possibility of traveling through time, this show
places the entire percussion section and their audience in a variety of
different historical and futuristic 'time zones'. "Time Machine" starts right
out with the drummers moving through the 'stargate' to access the other time
zones or periods. The 'stargate' music is bright, fast and furious--and the
performers move through to first end up in pre-historic, tribal Africa. Soon
again, they move through the subluminal time portal and the drum line is next
transported to Ancient Rome. As the performers narrowly escape the pursuit of
the Empire's Roman Legions they are again able to get through the stargate for a
short visit to the American Revolution, all the while being given the
opportunity to demonstrate and achieve the different forms of drumming and
musical styles that might have gone along with and express the period. The
recapitulations of the stargate motif get shorter each time they reappear in the
show until the entire production ends up in the fast paced technological world
of the future. Check out the example of the 'Roman World' time zone in the audio
clip.
